The Department of Anesthesiology has a team of doctors including consultants, Operating Department Assistants, recovery room nurses. and technicians who together manage the fully equipped state -of- art operating theatres, postoperative recovery room beds, emergency and road ambulance services at the Cosmos Hospital. Equipped with the latest and best monitoring and life support systems, all operating rooms have the facilities to carry out trans-esophageal echocardiography for real-time assessment of the anatomic and functional status of the heart while the surgery is in progress. Well \u00e2\u20ac\u201ctrained staff and availability of latest technology makes this as one of the safest places to get an anesthesia.<\/p>

The Department of Anaesthesiology has successfully completed over 24 yrs of existence. Over a period of time, it has seen significant technological, human-resource, functional and clinical evolution. Our Department has consistently maintained its position as a state-of-the-art essential clinical services providers are responsible for the safety and well-being of patients before, during and after surgery. This includes placing patients in a state of controlled unconsciousness called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153general anesthesia\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, the provision of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153regional anesthetics\u00e2\u20ac\u009d where only a portion of the body is made numb, or administering \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsedation\u2019 when indicated for the relief of pain or anxiety. These anesthetics provide continuous pain relief and sustain patients\u2019 critical life functions as they are affected throughout surgical, obstetrical or other medical procedures.<\/p>

The role of the anesthesiologist extends beyond the operating room. All patients scheduled for surgery or interventions to be monitored by anesthesiologists are visited by anesthesiologists prior to the procedure for complete assessment and planning. In addition, the pre-anesthetic sessions are meant to answer queries that patients may have, and patients are also encouraged to participate in planning out the techniques that would best suit them. Our the department provides specialized care for all surgical specialties including Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgical, Major Vascular and Endovascular, Pediatric, Gynecological, Obstetric and Neonatal, Oncological and General Surgical procedures.<\/p>

The medical expertise of the anesthesiologists enables them to alleviate pain. Pain has been designated as the fifth vital sign. Acute and chronic pain management constitutes a priority for our department. Patients suffering from chronic pain have a host of invasive and non-invasive techniques to treat this challenging problem. Also for these patients, a multi-specialty team exists to provide a cohesive approach to treatment. This includes a surgeon, neurologist, psychologist, and physical therapist. Multiple Options are Available to cancer pain patients as well. Anesthesiologists are also responsible for taking care of critically ill patients in the Surgical ICU, Catheterization labs, and leading the Rapid Response team for any sick patients at any location in the hospital.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
